Practical Interventions for Complex Student Behavior

WB Coaching develops case-based intervention resources for educators serving students with significant behavioral, emotional, developmental, and learning needs.

The resources are designed for situations in which traditional classroom-management strategies may be insufficient—including persistent refusal, emotional escalation, task avoidance, boundary concerns, trauma-related responses, breakdowns in accountability, and other complex patterns of behavior.
 

Our purpose is to help educators move from discussing difficult behavior to developing thoughtful, coordinated, and practical responses.

 

Why Case-Based Interventions?
 

Complex student behavior rarely has a single cause or a simple solution. The same behavior may serve different purposes for different students, and an approach that succeeds in one setting may be ineffective in another.
 

For that reason, WB interventions begin with realistic educational cases. Each case gives educators an opportunity to examine the situation, consider the factors contributing to the behavior, and evaluate possible responses before selecting an intervention.
 

The goal is not to provide a universal answer. It is to strengthen professional judgment and give educators structured tools they can adapt responsibly within their own settings.

WB resources are informed by more than two decades of experience in general education, special education, therapeutic school environments, curriculum development, school leadership, and the education of students with complex needs.
 

The cases reflect the realities educators encounter in high-needs classrooms: incomplete information, competing priorities, inconsistent progress, strained relationships, and decisions that must often be made without an obvious answer.
 

Student privacy is taken seriously. Identifying details are changed, and cases may combine elements from multiple situations to protect the individuals and communities involved.

 

About the Founder

WB Coaching was founded by Charles Mathison, Ed.S., an educator and school leader with extensive experience in general education, special education, curriculum development, behavior intervention, and specially designed instruction.
 

His work has focused particularly on students whose behavioral, emotional, developmental, or academic needs require educators to move beyond standard instructional and classroom-management approaches.
 

Through WB Coaching, Charles transforms practice-based knowledge into structured intervention resources that educators can examine, discuss, adapt, and use in their own schools.
